The "Huncho Jack, Jack Huncho" Album Cover is in Katzen. Seriously.
The original art for Travis Scott and Quavo’s "Huncho Jack, Jack Huncho” album cover is currently in Katzen as part of a Ralph Steadman exhibit. If you don’t know about the Katzen Museum, you’re not alone. It is a free gallery with three floors of professional art, and is also a common place for elderly couples to go out on dates. If you have been paying attention to the Metro Buses recently, you may have noticed that many actually have advertisements for this new limited exhibit. It's a real, legit museum, and it’s right in your backyard. I wish I knew about it before I was a senior.
Ralph Steadman is a name you may not know, but draws with a style that many will recognize immediately. Most famously, he illustrated “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas,” as well as other works of Hunter S. Thompson. As a close friend to Thompson, he helped shape the direction of gonzo journalism, drawing in just about the only style that could capture Thompson’s volatile and paranoid voice. In the museum, you can see a six foot tall statue of Thompson, based on one of Steadman’s most iconic drawings. Much more of his work with Thompson currently resides on Massachusetts Avenue.
The exhibit also displays caricatures of countless political and historical figures, including Joe Biden, Richard Nixon, Karl Marx, George Bush, and George Orwelll. Steadman has done artwork for special additions of classic books over the years, and you can flip through hard copies of “Animal Farm,” “The Grapes of Wrath,” and several others in Katzen.
Whether you have time between class, a lowkey first date, or just an appreciation for art, head over to the Katzen Museum. This is a rare moment when your tuition dollars are letting you do something cool. Don’t miss out.
