Date Ideas For a Long-Distance Relationship
by Emmy Goyette
Valentine’s day is a day for lovers to be together, even when you and your partner may be apart. Unprecedented times call for unprecedented innovation, so here are 10 super cute and unique long-distance dates for you and your s/o to try this Valentine’s day.
10) Virtual Movie Night
The internet these days is full of chrome extensions to facilitate long distance movie watching (my personal favorite being Scener). You and your partner can take advantage of this and enjoy a film, even while apart. Take this date night to get in your pajamas, get cozy, and enjoy a movie with your favorite person.
9) Dinner Date
Luckily, we live in the age of food delivery apps, and you can have your partner's favorite meal sent right to their doorstep. Pick something yummy and have it sent to your lover so you two can have a romantic dinner date over Zoom! Don’t forget to send dessert!
8) Look at the Same Moon
There is something beautiful and poetic about sharing a moon with the one you love, even when you are far away. Go outside and gaze at the moon and stars, knowing that your beloved is doing the same. If it’s sunny outside you could try
8a) Looking at the Same Sun.
Stare directly at it. Don’t look away, or you’ll break your lovers heart. If it’s cloudy, you can always try
8b) Looking at the Same Dirt
We all exist on a powerful and ancient earth, coursing with the shared lifeblood brewed from the bones of dinosaurs that once roamed the planet. This visceral energy connects all life through the dirt on the ground. Go. Stare at it. Know you are connected with your partner through eons past.
7) Lady and the Tramp Spaghetti Date
All you’ll need for this one is a laptop with a webcam, a spaghetti noodle (cooked), and a piece of tape. The rest is self explanatory.
6) Podcast Date
Have your partner lovingly spend hours recording and editing a well thought out podcast explaining a topic that they are passionate about. You can then listen to this while cooking or doing your laundry, and chuckle along occasionally without really following what they’re talking about.
5) Drink a Glass of Tap Water Together
We all exist on a powerful and ancient earth, dominated by oceans of unknown. These coursing waters touch all of us in the form of rain, eventually absorbed into the ground and used for your tap water. Go. Fill a glass from your tap. Connect to your partner through the vastness of the sea.
4) Astral Projection Date
Create an out of body experience that projects your astral body and consciousness into the home of your partner. This can be a fun way for you two to hang out, as long as you coordinate the location you want to meet up. It would be awkward to end up in the wrong spot- talk about a #valentinesdayfail!
3) Mail Them a Wad of Cash and Then Go to Bed
Nothing says romance like sending your partner some money and then promptly knocking out.
2) Frame Them for A Crime
This one will take some work, but it will be worth it for the look on your partners face! All you’ll need to do is find a bank, rob it, anonymously report your partner to the local authorities, and then weasel your way onto their jury. It will be a great bonding experience for you two when you deliver their verdict.
1) Fake Your Own Death
Dates are hard to plan, especially virtual ones! You certainly don’t want to run the risk of planning the wrong thing and effectively ruining your partner's Valentine’s Day. A safer bet would be to simply fake your own death, so you don’t have to worry about the stress of disappointing your partner. Of course, this will only work if you reappear miraculously on February 15th- their joy at seeing you return will be better than anything you could’ve given them the day before.
