Taylor Swift Songs in my Spotify Library Ranked By: "Will I Lose My Mind Listening to This on Valentine’s Day?"
by Grace Bruer
Everyone has a certain song, (or twenty) that evokes such raw emotion it causes a physical reaction. Whether that be crying, putting your head in your hands, screaming along to the lyrics, or laying down on the floor while your roommate watches bemusedly, we’ve all been there. Personally, Miss Taylor Swift has a number of songs that make me react by doing all of the above in some capacity. My Valentine’s Day this year will most likely consist of a (delicious) home-cooked “we’re single!” meal by my roommate, a bottle of wine, and a playlist of Taylor Swift songs that will make me “lose my mind” because I am single and have been inside for too long.
Will I Lose My Mind? - Not Likely
(shake it off - 1989, we are never ever getting back together - red (deluxe), no body, no crime - evermore, look what you made me do - reputation, bad blood - 1989, blank space - 1989, mean - speak now, style -1989, long story short - evermore, mad woman - folklore, love story - fearless)
No body, no crime: this is the ultimate girl power song. Killing a man after he cheats on AND kills your friend? He deserved it, and she got away with it! Good for her. Not going to lose my mind to this song.
Will I Lose My Mind? - Possibly
(seven - folklore, mirrorball - folklore, back to december - speak now, betty - folklore, willow - evermore, invisible string - folklore, cardigan - folklore, wildest dreams - 1989, my tears ricochet - folklore)
wildest dreams: the bittersweet nostalgia in this song pulls on the heartstrings a bit, but it’s not enough to make me fully lose it.
Will I Lose My Mind? - Likely
(tolerate it - evermore, hoax - folklore, exile - folklore, evermore - evermore, august - folklore, death by a thousand cuts - lover, happiness - evermore, cowboy like me - evermore, gold rush - evermore)
Tolerate it was made for the same people that Liability by Lorde was made for, and I am one of them.
Will I Lose My Mind? - Absolutely
(new year's day - reputation, champagne problems - evermore, ivy - evermore, ‘tis the damn season - evermore, out of the woods - 1989, delicate - reputation, the 1 - folklore, illicit affairs - folklore, you are in love - 1989 (deluxe))
Every single one of the songs in this tier has gotten the emotional best of me before. New year’s day, you are in love, delicate, and out of the woods are so romantic and tender that it makes me want to scream. Ivy, champagne problems, ‘tis the damn season, and illicit affairs are evocative and painful, and the 1? It feels like a personal attack.
If you see me on Spotify listening to Taylor Swift on Valentine’s Day, you no longer need to wonder “are they okay?” because you have this handy ranking to answer that question for you. Also, congrats to Taylor Swift for announcing that she’s remaking the entire Fearless album (plus adding six songs!) and RIP to my Spotify library because it looks like I’m going to be adding at least six more TSwift songs to it by the end of the year.
